February 2026

Role

Freelance Graphic Designer, Creative Consultant, Project Manager

Client

UW Madison Evans Scholars

Core Skills

Software: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop.Technical: Pre-press Production, CMYK/Pantone Workflows, Technical Spec Writing.Professional: Client Management, Strategy Documentation, Rapid Iteration.

Tools Used

Adobe Illustrator: Utilized for primary vector design, font outlining, and creating production-ready mechanicals. Adobe Photoshop: Employed for advanced digital restoration and reconstruction of non-user-friendly reference materials for the back-of-shirt design.Adobe Acrobat: Used to compile and deliver a 40+ page comprehensive project progress report and revision history for committee review. Color Management: Managed a specialized 4-color palette using CMYK (U.S. Web Coated SWOP v2) and Pantone spot color systems.Pre-Press Engineering: Developed detailed technical specifications, including white underbase requirements for Hunter Green fabric and transparency/knockout instructions.Ink & Substrate Knowledge: Specified Plastisol ink treatments and matte finishes to ensure durability and color vibrancy on 100% cotton garments.Digital Proofing: Facilitated a formal proofing workflow to validate color accuracy, placement tolerance ($\pm0.125$"), and sizing before final production.

I led the visual identity development and production design for the Evans Scholars: UW-Madison Chapter’s "New Scholar Day 2026" campaign. This project required a high degree of adaptability, moving from initial conceptual research to a complex production handoff. The final deliverables focused on a custom apparel system that balanced organizational tradition with a modern, leadership-driven aesthetic.Creative Strategy & The "Big Pivot"The project was defined by significant design evolutions that required rapid problem-solving and deep client collaboration:Color Palette Overhaul: After an initial direction, the client requested a total color palette shift. I developed a sophisticated 4-color system—Forest Green, Tan, Parchment, and White—optimized for visibility on Hunter Green garments.Structural Redesign: Following committee feedback, I pivoted from an approved back-of-garment design to a "whole new design". This involved removing a central badge element and repositioning complex visual markers, such as crisscrossed golf clubs, to maintain compositional balance.Historical Documentation: To ensure committee alignment through multiple revision rounds, I compiled a 40+ page progress report. This documented the design discovery process, revision history, and technical justifications for every creative decision.Technical Execution & ProductionPrecision was critical to ensure the final product met the high standards of a "detail-oriented" client:Asset Reconstruction: When provided with non-user-friendly reference materials, I utilized advanced digital restoration in Adobe Photoshop to reconstruct legacy assets into high-resolution, production-ready files.Screen Print Engineering: I developed a comprehensive Production Specification package. This included defining a mandatory white underbase for vibrancy on dark fabric, outlining fonts, and setting precise 4-color CMYK/Pantone separations.Final Delivery: The project culminated in a "Production Package" containing AI, PDF, and Pantone spot color files, along with explicit instructions for transparency/knockout treatments to ensure garment color integration.
