Tools Used

Canon EOS Rebel SL1, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw

The Objective

To move beyond standard "cap and gown" snapshots and create a dynamic, editorial-style portrait series. The goal was to capture the authentic camaraderie of the graduating class, balancing formal regalia with personal energy against the backdrop of Concordia’s campus.

The Approach
The session blended formal portraiture with candid lifestyle photography. I utilized the campus's unique topography specifically stone steps lined with yellow blooms and the pathways along Lake Michigan to frame dynamic group and individual compositions. Posing strategies ranged from seated candid moments to exuberant cap tosses and poised strides, ensuring a variety of visual storytelling elements.

The Outcome

A cohesive series of high-resolution images showcasing mastery of natural light, depth of field, and post-production harmony. Precise color grading enhanced the contrast between navy blue robes, gold tassels, and the crisp whites and greens of the landscape. The final collection is a polished, client-ready narrative that successfully evokes both anticipation and nostalgia.
