The primary goal was to act as a "tour guide," leading viewers through the diverse landscapes of Yellowstone National Park. The design focuses on the integration of expressive typography and iconic imagery to evoke the park’s vastness from the rhythmic eruptions of Old Faithful to the dramatic depths of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Process & Evolution

Conceptual Sketching: The project began with detailed thumbnail sketches to establish a sequential relationship between spreads. Early layouts focused on the placement of pull-out quotes from John Muir, such as "The mountains are calling and I must go," to set a reverent, adventurous tone.

Grid Development: I developed a flexible grid system to manage complex information, including the park’s history (established in 1872) and its status as the world’s largest collection of hydrothermal features.

Sequential Pacing: Each spread was designed to be distinctive yet uniform. I utilized "lead-ins" and large-scale headlines, like MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, to create a sense of scale and physical movement through the pages.

Design Execution

Typography: A carefully curated hierarchy of headlines, subheads, and body copy ensures the technical data is accessible and engaging.

Visual Storytelling: The brochure balances image-dominant spreads with type-heavy informational sections, utilizing full-bleed imagery and "spirit-of-place" graphics to maintain interest across all 16 pages.

Production: The final piece was produced as a physical artifact, featuring high-resolution imagery and a saddle-stitched finish to meet professional craft standards.
